We celebrate all kinds of cycles: holidays and festivals. The only personal cycle we celebrate is our birthday - that's when the Sun and Earth return to the same relationship they had when you were born.

Astrologers call that the solar return. But every planet in your chart has a return cycle. And there's another heavenly body whose returns are incredibly important: the Moon.

You know the Moon's cycle controls the tides and influences processes throughout the natural world. There's a personal Moon cycle, too. When the Moon returns to the exact relationship with the Earth that it had when you were born - that moment is your lunar return.

There are roughly thirteen lunar returns every year: one per lunar month. If you want to study lunar returns, you have to construct and interpret thirteen charts for each year - a lot of work.

A Cosmobiological approach...

I've been a student of astrology for forty-two years, beginning when I was ten years old. In 1974, I learned of a radically different approach to astrological interpretation, called Cosmobiology. The great German astrologer, Reinhold Ebertin, developed Cosmobiology during and after World War II.

Cosmobiology isn't particularly interested in signs and houses. It focuses almost completely on the geometric patterns formed by the planets as they move. Instead of interpreting the significance of the signs, Cosmobiology looks to the basic meaning of each planet - and combines these basic planetary meanings to reveal profound insights.

This planet-centered approach made great sense to me back in 1974, and I've used it almost exclusively since then. I've embodied Cosmobiological principles using sophisticated computer-based pattern analysis - software that I've personally developed and continue to evolve. A new way to interpret lunar returns

I've been researching and developing a new way to interpret lunar returns for over ten years. Follow Your Moon in 2009 brings this approach to you. Here's what happens:

The opportunities that you have during this lunar cycle appear in green, while your challenges appear in red. The larger the word, the more important the keyword is to you. But there's a lot more information you can get out of a lunar return cycle. My work these last ten years focused on interpreting the unfolding patterns that the planets create during the month against the backdrop of the lunar return chart - and of your birth chart. I've developed a system that looks at the changing planetary picture throughout the month.

The question is how to make it simple to use. The number of factors that the computer systems analyze to create a single report is staggering - let alone creating thirteen reports for a whole year. What I've devised is a way to correlate all the information and distill it into an easy-to-read entry in a table - one row for each day of the year. Here's what it looks like:

Each row describes the cosmic forces at work for you for a single day. The bar graph shows you instantly how strong the overall planetary energies are that day: the more bars, the stronger the energies. (Strong energies are neither bad nor good; a day with strong energies will likely have lots going on.)

The second column indicates the areas of life that are highlighted on that day. And the third column shows you opportunities in green and challenges in red for each day.

It's up to you to take the overall theme for the lunar cycle - that's the trend for the month - and blend in the influences for the day. And then go about your day!
